A good thriller is an easy sell these days. It seems every era has one, whether it be Jaws or The Perfect Storm. But sometimes you can't trust your gut, because it will pry open the tightest hinge on the nicest door in town. Sometimes you need to put that gut on trial for treachery, and when that trial begins it is best not to rely on any of your instincts since they can lie to you at any moment. So with that in mind, I present today's offering which might just save your life one day when you are locked inside a prison cell by a sadistic warden with no hope of escape... This is Businessman. Businessman is an Indian thriller that comes at us like a stranger in the dark. It teases you with its neatness, elegance, and polish like an Old World European opera, but it does so in its own strange language that might make you think you've gone mad. And if this stylish action-thriller doesn't make you think it's one complete horror film (since I can't even call what happens "suspense"), it will make you wonder whether the thrillers coming out of India are just too hard to understand for foreign audiences. But that's not the case, because Indian thrillers are not that hard to understand. It's just that they can be a bit more artsy and over-the-top than your standard Hollywood thriller. And Businessman is definitely an Indian thriller through and through, as it rights away from the international conventions for which they became famous as early as the mid-1980s. You see, most Indian thrillers you might see these days adhere to a pretty familiar format: a scared but determined hero facing down an army of bad guys until he finds a moment of calm to strike back with a vengeance. But in Businessman, we have a hero who is quite clearly outmatched by his opponents from the start. And there is no chance that he can outsmart them. All he can do is stare them down in the eyes with the same determination they have for him, and hope that something will give before they can get to him. It's a very different take on the genre, because in this style of thriller, it's not just about being scared or even being in danger. It's about being outmatched by smarter opponents who are simply out to get you one way or another. And when all you have left is your wits to rely on, it makes for some good tension mixed with moments of pure dread. In other words, Businessman puts forth a very unique take on the thriller genre that may take a while for you to get used to. I'm not going to say that this is a bad movie. In fact, every once in awhile it is quite good, and it even comes close to being a great movie at times. But the reason I'm not calling it a great movie is because of its pacing issues and how it can be downright frustrating to watch at times. The story begins with an obscure flashback scene. The hero of this story is locked inside a prison cell one day when he unwittingly catches the eye of an inmate who was just brought in from death row for his execution. cfa1e77820
